Water is the basis for all life in Florida. It supports ecosystems with some of the highest biodiversity in the country and is an essential part of Florida’s tourism industry, a state known for its beaches and springs. While many of the residents appreciate the natural beauty of the resource, its impact on our day-to-day lives often goes unrecognized. For its essential role in the state, we are often wasteful in our usage of it. This photo series captures the perspective of Florida through its relationship with water.
These photos consist of a mixture of documentary-style photographs that capture the natural environments reliant on water and staged photos to tell the narrative of the resource’s intimate usage in daily life. As the content of the photos shifts so does how the method for taking the photographs shifts from simply capturing the spaces to completely controlling the narrative and all aspects of the photos. The combination of the two perspectives hopes to provide a comprehensive understanding of not only water’s impact on us but also our impact on it.
