According to National Geographic, 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris litter our ocean. Plastic pollution has drastic negative impacts not only on the plants and animals that inhabit it but also on those who rely on the sea for food and livelihood. With about 40% of the world’s population living within 100 kilometers of the ocean, this issue will directly affect everyone.
Tidy Tides is a collaborative campaign for International Coastal Cleanup Day between 3 ocean conservation organizations (The Ocean Cleanup, Sea Life Trust, and the Surfrider Foundation) to bring awareness and educate about ocean pollution as well as promote local ocean conservation initiatives and events.
